The conglomeration of our positive thoughts, words, and actions, paves a pathway to positive global change. When we share and treat everyone with dignity, we reveal the piece of the Creator that is part of us. We are the peacekeepers. You and me and “them.” All of us. It is up to us, in our daily lives, to be aware of our own intolerances. When we disagree—in politics, in business, in our personal relationships—we need to give the other person the space to live and worship safely. That is our job, and now, more than ever before, by doing so, we have the ability to enact true and lasting change. Affirmation for the Day: I am a part of a universal network of consciousness. By treating others with human dignity and kindness, I do my part in bringing about global transformation. Read More
Today, I write to you from the holy city of Safed in northern Israel. This Shabbat is known as Shabbat Beshalach, which as we have mentioned is the revelation of the energy of the 72 Names of God (several of which I have posted about throughout the week) This Shabbat, I would like us all to focus our energies again towards the name I wrote about on Tuesday - the mem yud hey for unity. The reason for this is that while there are so many specific names that we can use to make changes in our lives-- the aleph lamed daled for protection from evil eye, the mem yud caf for overcoming fear, the yud yud zayin for guarding our speech—the name for unity encompasses all of them: for if we recognize the true unity that exists between us- the unity of our souls-then we wouldn’t have cause for jealousy, fear, or evil speech. Now, for those of you who are not familiar with Safed or the geography of the region, spending this Shabbat here provides us with many spiritual opportunities- definitely on a... Read More

It is so easy to be consumed by our goals to the detriment of other aspects of our life. How often have we said or thought, “When I am 60, I’ll finally be able to enjoy my kids and my family and all the things I would have done if I had only made the time”? How many of us go through each day just to get to the next day or to the time when we will finally be able to live and share and be and do all that we are destined to do? How many of us put off living because we are so busy trying to catch up? This kind of consciousness—this “living for tomorrow”—is in itself a form of bondage. It is a form of working towards something that may or may not happen. But there is an alternative. The alternative is to inject appreciation and joy into the life we are living right now. Today, let’s live in appreciation. Imagine a world in which every person would simply get up in the morning and say, “Wow, I have eyes to see and hands to feel! Thank You, God!” Then just imagine how the positive energy... Read More
Being a force of kindness in the lives of others begins with acting with kindness towards ourselves. It takes only one small candle to bring light to a darkened room, and that one flame can light the wicks of thousands of others. But the flame must be lit before it can share. Today, practice being kind to yourself so you can light the candles of those around you. You have a spark of the Creator within you. Recognize it and treat yourself with human dignity. You have the ability and responsibility to transmit your Light to others, because ultimately, this is how real and lasting change will come. Affirmation for the Day: I recognize the spark of the Creator that resides within me, and I am sending its Light into the darkness in the world. Read More
This is a week when we can receive a fresh perspective and can practice being open to the universe. For example, when we are really trying to do the right thing and something happens unexpectedly and we are baffled by it, we can say, “Wait a second. Maybe this is a message for me to change something within myself. Maybe this situation is coming from the Light. Maybe there is something else I have to do to go to my next level.” Oftentimes, the greatest blessings in our lives are cloaked in difficulties and challenges that we come up against. By meditating on today’s Name, we can gain the ability to see the lesson or the message in everything that comes our way. Affirmation for the Day: I know that there are no coincidences in life. I know that whatever happens, happens for a reason. I trust that the Light is guiding me in the direction I need to go for my highest good. Read More

Imagine the destruction that just a few individuals can wreak upon society and the world. With enough intention, any group of people is powerful, even if it sometimes exists for the wrong reasons. So in these chaotic times, let’s think about how we can affect the world if we weave together our individual strands of consciousness to blanket the world with positive energy. Think of the power of a few simple hashtags—#illridewithyou, #jesuischarlie, or #iamnigeria—in creating a connection between people of all nationalities and walks of life. If we can come together in our goal of creating human dignity for all, then together we can move mountains. The foundation of this unity is the concept that what’s more important than being right is being capable of understanding the views of others and working together with them. We can all be great in what we do. But we can be even greater if we do it together. Affirmation for the Day: With this Name, I focus on the spark of the Creator that is... Read More
It often requires effort to find common ground with those who think, look, live, or pray differently than we do. But sometimes it can be even harder to find common ground in our existing interpersonal relationships. What we need to learn is that when we love someone—a partner, a friend, or a family member—and they exhibit unpleasant mood swings or push our buttons, we still need to extend them love without agenda, just as we would have them extend love to us with all of our frailties and shortcomings. This doesn’t mean that we cannot set healthy boundaries or that we have to put up with someone treating us badly. It does mean, however, that we need to allow those close to us to feel that they are a part of us—even when they are “off their game” so to speak or when they act like a child rather than an adult. We can receive the gift of unconditional love when we are ready and willing to extend it ourselves. Affirmation for the Day: I extend unconditional love to others and thereby... Read More

This week’s Bible portion is Beshalach, a very powerful portion in which 72 Names of God are revealed to mankind. The 72 Names are 72 three-letter combinations of Hebrew letters, each combination channeling its unique energy from the Upper Worlds into our world through the letters themselves. We can connect with these letters simply by passing our eyes over them with the conscious intent of connecting to their energy. At the Kabbalah Centre, we teach that any person can use these Names as a spiritual tool to connect with the spark of Divine Essence within and to make transformations at the seed level—the level of consciousness. To learn more about the 72 Names of God, click here. With all confusion and the negativity in the world right now, our collective meditation, prayers, and energy are especially important, so each day this week, I will be posting a different name with a supporting affirmation. The idea is that all together our consciousness and unified effort can flood the world... Read More

Because they are able to see through and anticipate the end result of most endeavors, Aquarians have a tendency to rush through things. They want the work to be over with already. They have a hard time “slowing down for the ride,” so to speak, because in their mind, what they have envisioned is as simple and clear as if it has already come to pass. Since all of us are affected by the energy of Aquarius this month, let’s make sure to take a moment to pause and not rush to make snap decisions. For the next few weeks, take the time to allow yourself to really think things through and plan accordingly. Cross your t’s and dot your i’s this month. Be detailed and work step by step to make your plans a reality. Don’t fly by the seat of your pants. At the same time, however, do think outside the box and do keep moving forward! Read More

Going to work. Doing the laundry. Taking the kids to hockey practice. Grocery shopping. Always running around, always busy, right? Stop. Give yourself the gift of time. Time to slow down, to take at least 20 minutes of quiet time to pray, to commune with the spark of the Creator within. Time to burn a candle in a quiet room, to watch the clouds, to walk the dog. Time, even, to acknowledge that there are situations we have no control over and to realize that other ones are presented to us to relay a message. We will reap the benefits of these moments of introspection and peace, and in due course, these moments will bring us a good return on our investment of time and energy. Read More

Your smile sends out a powerful message: My heart is open to be a friend, to listen to you, to have empathy for you. Inside of me, I have made room for you. A smile triggers a domino effect. When you smile, you inspire others to extend beyond themselves and enter a world where they share with others and others share with them. Conversely, when you are angry or fearful, you bring out these same emotions in those around you. In a sense, you are encouraging others to be limited and self-concerned. Today, take a moment to reflect on how you are affecting those around you. Is your energy bringing expansion and light, or coldness and limitation? Read More

Honesty is a quality of the Light. If we want to be the Light in a relationship, we need to be ourselves. I’m not saying concealment isn’t appropriate at times, but hiding things out of fear and insecurity is not really a good idea. Of course, honesty requires courage. When we hesitate to tell the truth, it is often because we are afraid of the consequences. And sometimes we may be afraid for good reasons! But even if the initial reaction to our honesty is messy, it is sometimes better to let the chips fall where they may. That way we allow room for something more solid and authentic to take hold. We are working so that the next generation can live with the understanding that within every human being is a spark of God. When everyone in the world realizes this, there will be no more prejudice, no more wars. We will have a world without guns and without drugs—a world where people will live in love instead of hatred. To quote and honor that great soul Martin Luther King Jr. on this day of his birth: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Read More

God doesn’t give us more than we can handle. How many times in our life have we heard this line? When we feel we are completely surrounded by darkness, when we’re convinced there’s no way out, there’s no point thinking that God has it in for us. No, we have these hopeless thoughts simply because somewhere along the line, we gave up. We said, “OK, I don’t want this test. I don’t want to lift 500 pounds. In fact, I am settling for my 50-pound weights over here because I can do those easily.” Today, remember that we can reveal the greatest amount of spiritual Light through the biggest and most difficult tests in our life. “There is within each one of us a potential for goodness beyond our imagining; for giving which seeks no reward; for listening without judgment; for loving unconditionally.” ― Elisabeth Kübler-Ross When we consciously realize the magnitude of what we are—a spark of the infinite Light of the Creator—then it becomes so much easier for us to share our energy with others. If we can start to connect with our inner goodness just a little more in our lives, if we can take the Divine energy that fills us and use it for the benefit of others, we can begin to experience life on an entirely different level. By connecting with this internal energy, we can be present and available for others, even if we don’t feel great, and even if everything isn’t as we think it should be. Read More

The journey to become more spiritual doesn’t happen without some kind of pain. In order to grow, we have to confront any number of challenges. Think of the process like this. If you place a piece of coal on the table, it will remain a piece of coal. If you want to create a diamond, however, that coal must be placed under tons of pressure; it is only with this pressure that it becomes a diamond. The same thing happens with us. When we confront challenges and difficulties in life—when we are put under pressure, we can grow and advance on our spiritual path. When we really work for something, we can truly appreciate what we have accomplished and where we are when we finally reach the end game. Read More

Abraham was one of the greatest astrologers of all time. Based on what he observed in the stars that mapped out his future, he knew that he would have no children. But we know that he did have children, so what’s the story here? The Creator told Abraham: The stars compel but they do not impel. So because of his spiritual transformation—at the age of 100—Abraham was able to change the course of his life. It is important to know that we, too, can change the direction of our life. Not everything that is mapped out for us in the Heavens needs to play out. It is written that each of us has angels that either dance or cry in our presence, but whether they dance or cry depends entirely on the words and deeds—negative or positive—that we choose to say and do. A human being is a part of the whole, called by us the 'Universe,' a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security." -- Albert Einstein We are living in a powerful time, but a dangerous one -- a time when we can no longer turn our backs on the heartbreaking reality of hatred and violence that exists for so many all over the world. Sunday's event in Paris in response to this reality was incredible and unprecedented: millions... Read More
Positive and negative energy are essentially the same thing: The only difference lies in their application. Imagine a wealthy and powerful individual. If this person behaves with no scruples, and thinks only about what is good for himself alone, then he exhibits negative energy. He lives in a kill-or-be-killed universe. Now, imagine another individual with the same resources. This individual could be a philanthropist, creating abundance through charity, enhancing the lives of others, and creating a system that helps humanity. He lives in a universe of beneficence and circuitry. The energy is the same with both individuals. The difference lies in how it is directed. Today, be mindful of how you are directing your energy, and remember that there is only one source for it—the Light of the Creator. There are no other batteries in this world. Read More

The greatest trait of any person who chooses to lead is the ability to stir not the head but the heart. A person might be able to put together an erudite, even gifted explanation of the minute complexities in this field of expertise or that one, but all of this explanation pales in comparison to the feeling we get when we stand outside on a beautiful, brilliant night, gazing at the vastness of the stars in the sky. It is not as important to fill our brains with facts as it is to fill our hearts with love. Read More
A single string is weak, but a thousand strings together, or a hundred thousand strings together, or a million strings together can create a rope that can’t be broken. If each of us is a strand of consciousness, constantly thinking about how we can grow and make this world better, then we can create a rope so strong that it can pull us—and the rest of humanity—out of the darkness that we are now experiencing. Sometimes people say, "Oh God, I feel so bad, I wish I were dead" or "I wish I didn’t have this or I didn’t have that." We say all sorts of nonsensical things because we forget that there are little energies around us, waiting on our every word, eager to pick up and manifest the negative vibrations we put out there. It is said that Rebecca, the wife of Isaac, cried out when she was in labor: “May I never get pregnant again if I have to go through this kind of pain.” Because of her words, she was not able to have any children after Jacob and Esau. Although it was her destiny to be the mother of the 12 tribes, she actually altered what had been ordained for her from above. Of course we are not on the spiritual of Isaac and Rebecca, but nevertheless our words have power. Let’s use them wisely. Read More

Someone once asked me, “How can a person use a hurtful situation they’re in with another person to benefit all parties involved?” I replied that the first thing we should do is to step back from the situation and tune in to what is going on inside of ourselves. The Bible tells us that when Rebecca sent her son Jacob away, she told him, “You can come back when you no longer feel your brother Esau’s hatred for you.” For us, this translates to the idea of not approaching the other person until we feel that the pain and anger within has subsided. Otherwise, whatever we say or whatever we do will simply be an extension of those negative thoughts and feelings. We may need to step away, think about what happened, and find out what was going on inside that created the situation in the first place. Then, especially if we are trying to become more spiritual, we can approach the other person directly to discuss what happened. What we shouldn’t do is go around discussing the situation with a slew... Read More

To nourish and bring life and energy to this hurting world, we need to bring humanitarianism into our daily lives. What do I mean by this? Well, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a humanitarian is “a person who works to make the lives of other people better.” So when we say “thank you so much” to our spouse when he brings us a cup of coffee, or we ask the person in the next cubicle at work how she is doing, we should do it not simply to be polite or “nice” but rather because we have a desire to grow our caring for humanity and our connection to the Light of the Creator. The idea is not only be aware of those around us, but also to be willing and ready to extend our energy for them. Read More

Each one of us is a world unto ourselves. Every person extends a specific vibration of energy. These vibrations are created through our words, thoughts, and actions. Today, let’s take a minute to remember that what comes out of our mouth is even more important than what goes in, and that it’s not so much how we pray that matters, but rather how we behave, because each and every action is like a prayer. What we say and do creates the energy we pass on to those closest to us and the rest of the world. Read More

So often when we come into conflict with another person, we only think about what’s good or bad for "me," how uncomfortable "I" feel, how "I" can get out of this mess, or how "I" got into it in the first place. The main issue with these thoughts is that they are all about "me" and "mine," and in that train of consciousness there is no acknowledgement of: "OK, this person has come into my life for some good reason, but right now we are at odds. Have I learned anything from the experience? What is the universe trying to teach me?" Oftentimes, the reason that most of us succumb to the darkness of anger, confusion, or worry in these situations is because we become overwhelmed by our own reactive consciousness. The good news is that if we can learn how to pull ourselves out of this place, then we can literally create a different perspective altogether. (Think of it as seeing ourselves watching the movie instead of being in the movie.) No matter what we come up against in life, we need to... Read More

Before he became the great leader that he was, Moses was a poor shepherd. One day, one of his lambs lacked the strength to follow him back to the pasture, so Moses picked it up and carried it in his arms. The Creator thought: If he cares so much for a little lamb, how much more can he care for the people? And with that, He appointed Moses as leader of the Israelites. Leaders like Moses are the type of leaders that we need in our world today: leaders with consciousness, leaders who care, leaders whose goal is to create true change and harmony. Amidst all of the pain and chaos in the world right now, let us ask the Creator to help us to be this kind of leader in whatever sphere we live and work. Yes, all of us can be leaders in one capacity or another. As John Quincy Adams put it almost two centuries ago: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are a leader.” Read More

Each one of us represents a piece of the Creator. Every person alive—no matter who we are, how we pray, or what language we speak—is part of the energy of the Light of God. As such, we must extend human dignity to all. Now you may say, “Come on, of course I treat others with human dignity!” But the fact is that many times, this isn’t the case—for any of us. As human beings, each of us has our own little idiosyncrasies: things that we consistently say or do in certain situations. For example, how often at a restaurant or at the front desk of a hotel do we let loose on the person who has absolutely nothing to do with the problem we’re having? We may not witness the consequences of our anger, but that reactive energy we’ve put out often catapults onto the next person that our “scapegoat” has to deal with. Or how many times do we get upset at someone in line in front of us just because we are running late? Do we ever think about how our negative energy might affect that person and, in... Read More

In the midst of such chaos in my life, I have been able to find peace through studying Kabbalah. Without any doubts whatsoever, I would highly recommend anyone to call. I am so thankful for The Kabbalah Centre, because it has made all the difference in my spiritual growth and development.

Kabbalah is the best gift I have had this year. But it did not come easy. It is a result of a lot of hard, focused, and disciplined work my teacher guided me through. Often I had to go out of my comfort zone to apply the tools. But the satisfaction and confidence I now feel is indescribable.

Now I look back and question what exactly I did and how I managed without these teachings in my life.
